Special Featured Post: A Word From Burke's Books

Ever since we started this wave of support for Booksellers, Burke's Books has been one of our biggest supporters. Some may consider this odd considering Burke's is a "competitor" in the local bookstore mareket, but the truth is that the owners of Burke's, Cheryl and Corey Mesler, are huge supporters of local bookstores and they have been more than welcoming to the idea of this Feb 15 event. Below is the message they have left for Booksellers and STRONGLY encourage you to share this post below and leave a comment too. Burke's was one of the first businesses to pick up the petition I started and I firmly respect them for that and I hope you will too:

"The closing of The Booksellers at Laurelwood is not just another business being shuttered. We can’t help but see it as another nail in the coffin of literary culture in Memphis. A city our size deserves a full-service independently owned bookstore, if only to have a place for readers to feel at home and a place to find new books without going to Amazon. Amazon only drains money from the city. Let’s keep our money in Memphis. Let’s agree that a bookstore is more than just a business. It’s a place for community and refinement and intellectual curiosity." -Cheryl and Corey Mesler and the staff of Burke's Book Store
